Fully convinced you're a troll but in case you're not: I'm literally transgender, I'm actually agnostic and not Christian, and yes, these movies do imply that transness is born out of child abuse! That is a common and notably incorrect theme in these movies, which has had an impact on how real people view real trans people. It is bad and incorrect, and the point of my piece is to highlight those incorrect assertations throughout film history. A quick Google search will show a multitude of articles that cite Buffalo Bill and Norman Bates as transgender characters, and while no, they are not by definition transgender, their coding is often understood as transgender by audiences.
